I was looking at this truck for a possible replacement for my 1999. I got it when my other truck was totalled by the insurance company...it's paid for...only has 108,000 miles on the body, 48,000 on the engine, and 28,000 on the transmission. Basically it's a older truck with a newer engine and transmission. My only complaint is that the 5.4L engine gets 14-15mpg. So will the trade off of a truck payment with the diesel engine...albiet a smaller block diesel be worth it?

Reading the January issue of Popular Mechanics on page 73 they have a picture of the new 2009 F-150. The story line is about "The case for diesel."

Here is the quote of the caption:

FORD F-150 PICKUP
Engine: 4.4 liter V8
Target Release Date: 2009
Derived from the Euro-spec 3.6 liter currently used in Land Rovers, which get around 31 mpg on the highway.

My Question is does anyone have any info on this truck with the diesel 4.4 liter engine. That would be great to have a truck with the torque of a small diesel, but the milage of a car.

Currently my 99' F-150 has about 108,000 miles and 14 mpg with a 5.4L V8.

Anyone with info chime in.

Paul

Also, here is the link from autoweekly:

Would this have as much or more HP than my 5.4L and towing capacity?
