What is the shortest 3/4 16 tpi oil filter?
I need the very shortest oil filter that uses the 3/4 nipple and 16 threads per inch. I have an air boat with a Lycoming O320 airplane engine that conincidentaly uses a Ford Oil filter.
The clown I bought it from forced a metric filter on because the space is so small. I want to use a Ford filter but can't find one short enough. I have tried
85085, wix 51085,
purolater b4670, K&N hp-2004.
They are a bit too tall.
It has to be no more than 3 1/2" tall.... I know that is small but its a tight fit!
Anyone know what will fit?
Thanks
a million
The shortest filter that I know of that has the same thread sizing and gasket size/mating surface it the AMSOIL EAO-41 or a WIX 51311. These both are 3/4-16 thread with a gasket size of 2.834" OD x 2.462" ID x .200 Thick. Filter height is 3.372" with a 3.661" OD case.
Have you thought of using a remote oil filter system? This will allow you to use the larger filter.

Is that overall height? I mean to the top of the center of the domed part.
The reason I ask is the one I have is 3.75 inches to the top of the dome, just a little bit too tall.
I am trying to do this on the cheap so a remote is a last choice.
Thanks

I would say that if you turned the filter upside down on a flat surface and measured to the bottom of the filter (dome), it would be 3.372". I would just go to your local oil filter supply joint, pull the filter out of the box, plop it down on the counter and measure it.
omg there are literally HUNDREDS of short filters that fill the bill/ K&N 1003 is very short and I use it on my Goldwing Conversion adapter. You can google a cross reference to this filter and get probably more than 50 that will fit your needs. I am CERTAIN there are Motorcraft filters that maatch. the thread cross reference is 3/4-16 thread.

- MOTORCRAFT FL840 Just to name a few. you can also use this table....

The simple fact you put Amsoil in all you vehicles shows you have done some research and found what many find. Amsoil is one of the far superior oils in the marketplace. They simply do not have the market share Mobil 1 has. Everyone else is lagging behind because Mobil 1 INVENTED Synthetic Oil back in the 70's. Therefore they got a jump on everyone else. Did you notice Mobil 1 has discontinued the Annual Protection Oil? Ever asked yourself why?
And Mobil 1 has a better price point than Amsoil which is the biggest reason Amsoil is not so well known. Its a shame really as I too use Amsoil in all my performance vehicles and Diesel Tow vehicles. For the everyday driver, it just is not necessary. We each have our own opinion's, and I certainly respect your choices.
However, I would like to thank you specifically for insinuating that I was perhaps an idiot? Thank You for your concerns. This is one of the reasons I rarely post to ANY Forum. Forum Trolls. So sad.
