I don't have an exp, but I do have an 1988 GL which is in good condition. It just needs a new battery, headlights and a cd-player to make it a nice daily driver.
Is a US Escort the same as a UK one? I've a 1993 1.8td and I've just recked my EBC green stuff pads, they just can't take the heat, Would I be able to fit mondeo disks and calipers? as their bigger!!

No the UK Escorts are completely different animals to that of the US versions, however the Australian version are twins to the US versions... putting bigger calipers and pads under the stock rims might not work out so well.
