This weekend I was driving in the mountains, and my 97 aerostar 3.0L V6 engine died while pulling up a hill. I originally thought it was the alternator because it wouldn't turn over. After testing the alternator, battery, starter and solenoid, I decided to try to turn the crank manually. It will not budge. I have broken two wrenches on it so far. I'm thinking that maybe the timing chain broke and is binding the crank shaft, but I haven't pulled the cover yet to check. Has this ever happened before? Is there a collision problem between the valves and pistons when the timing chain breaks on the 3.0L V6 engine? I am very surprised that this happened. I only have 109,000 miles on the van, and I was told that I could expect 200K plus before any hardcore engine issues. Someone please help!
