Howdy, I have a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500, i'm gonna cut the front and rear sections of so that i can weld a roll cage in the car, tub out the rear quarter panels for bigger tires, and drop a 351W with a 2 speed Powerglide and change gears and work on the chassis etc. Any others out there building ford racecars?

Hey Cajunredneck, I Have a 64 Fairlane as well. If you have any problems building you car let me know. I already have most of my chassis built. If you get a chance I would love to see some pics of your ride.

To tell you the truth I don't know why anyone ever looks at any transmission but a 70's Ford auto. trans. You can change bellhousings and adapt anywhere, anyhow you like. GM auto. trannies are a great big useless unadaptable pain in the ass in my book. When you can buy heavy duty gears for a Ford auto. trans. why bother hassling yourself. Plus, They're a heck of a lot easier to reach in around and build and modify. If you're a real racer you'd know that the faster you can get it from broke to up and running - the better and if you're any good at all you know a Ford auto. tranny. is the fastest deal (next to maybe a stick shift 3 speed). Overall - 2 gears seems sadly lacking.
