i am needing to build a cowl hood for a 64 galaxy 500 i was wondering if anyone new the best location to cut the air hole in the hood, besides under the cowl. in frony or in rear of the x brase or in the muddle of it( i shutter at the thought of that one)??? any help would be greatly appreciated most of my ford experience has been ranger and explorers up untill this so im really kind of lost with this...thanks

Personally,I don't see the usefulness of a cowl hood. I like forward air scoops like "ram" air deals and they're easier to deal with than cutting through the center of the support and doing that deal. A low profile forward scoop would be the nicest deal on a '64 if it was done right. Plus backward scoops also produce air suction at speed - defeating the whole purpose.

thats is true but im try'n to cure an overheatin problem so i actually want suction to move more air around the engine not through it

Did you try a lower thermostat? Like a 180 degree might help. Make sure you put it in facing the correct way or it might overheat.

yeah i have tried no thermostat as well and still hot i got a new aluminum radiator and twin fans to put in as well. i have never been around a 390 that got hot like this one i think most of it was in the old radiator but its for a friend of ines dad and he wants a cowl so the engine gets more air

That's my point. A cowl hood picks up hot, low radiator air. It might be good for the purpose of venting. Sometimes you'll find overheating is the result of an aftermarket intake because they have no shielding from hot oil and don't cool as well.
