Idle Air Control Valve
 

Hi everyone. I have noticed that my 1995 Ranger 4cyl idles very rough in the morning. I also have to keep my foot on the pedal for a minute so it doesn't stall. I already replaced the fuel filter and PCV valve yesterday. From what I am reading, could it possibly be the Idle Air Control Valve? If that is the case, then I am requesting help for the following:

1. Where the heck is it on the 2.3 engine (Picture would be great!)
2. Is it possible to clean this valve, or do I have to run and buy a new one?
3. Is it easy to take off and replace?

Does this sound like the cause of the rough idle in the morning? I literally have to keep my foot on the gas for about 30 seconds so it won't stall. After that, it can run fine all day long. Strange.

Do yourself a favor before you replace anything. Try cleaning the carbon off of the butterfly plate as best you can.

removing to clean is your best route. be shure to remove any sensors (throttle position sensor if it has one, make sure the screw marks line up when you put back) carb cleaners usually screw them up, also take off clean carbon/sludge, and put back IAC valve.

This is easier than you think, only takes 10-20 minutes total.

parts needed; 1 can of gunk, paper towels, new gasket.

If you un-plug the vacume hose going to the brake booster and it runs fine, then its your air idle controll valve.
