Haven't done a Five Hundred, but the 3.0 DURATEC is a 3.0 DURATEC. Should be able to reach around the back for the side of the engine. That's how I do the Taurus/Sables with the DURATEC. It's kind of a pain, but easier than removing the intake. If you're paws are too big, then you'll have to resort to removing the upper intake manafold and other paraphernalia that is attached to the intake that needs removed in order to remove the upper intake.
