Okay, ladies and gentlemen, the car is fixed. Here's what happened: the water pump seized up, and actually broke the timing belt. The mechanic (who did an awesome job) took care of everything, although I helped a little bit. As to the fuel filter, once I took off the battery, it was very easy to get to. Thanks for all your help, guys!
