Question Bronco engine swap

I recently bought an 87 full sized bronco and the engine in it is getting tired. I had a freind of mine suggest putting an older powerstroke diesel has any done this and have any suggestions ???

What size engine does it have? If it's a 5.0, you could get a used one fairly cheap to do a straight up swap.
