Question trans cooler

I have a 91 ranger with an automatic trans a4ld , the engine has a clutch fan. I had read a tsb and it said that my ranger might have a trans cooler that is to small, I was having tranny problems in the summer so I replaced it with one that was twice as big,( that was the only one the auto parts store had), Anyway I read somewhere, that if you put a large cooler on , I might have to cover some of it in the winter or the fluid might thicken up to much and cause problems. I called an auto parts store, and he said that I should'nt have to cover anything, well considering the clutch fan that runs all the time, I thought I should come here and ask, just to be on the safe side.
