Default Ranger Idle Stumble when Climate Control is on

Hello. I have a 97 ranger with the 4 cylinder motor.
It runs just fine until I turn on the Climate Control.
Then it begins to stumble at idle like it is going to stall.
It does this every 17 seconds or so when the AC compressor drive snaps on.
It does not matter if it is on heat, or AC.
I've taken it the dealership twice now.
They have replaced the AC compressor both times.
They charge about $500 for the job.
The truck then runs fine for about three months.
Then it starts doing this again.

Has anyone else seen this behavior.
Can you explain to me why it's happening.
Is there a non $500 fix for this?

Thanks.
