Default 95 Ford Escort

How do I find out what transmission is in my car???The tag on the tranny is missing and now I have no clue which tranny I have,,,I know there was two different gear ratios...I tried decoding the vin number but there is no info for the trans type,,,It is an automatic and the engine is the 1.9L...Any help would be greatly appreciated, the car is in pristine condition but the tranny quit me,,,I would sure like to get it replaced so I can drive the car again...Thanks Mike

Welcome to the site..

Look in the drivers door jamb at the VCL (vehicle certification label) for the 'AX' on the bottom row.. Whats the letter code listed below the AX heading?
