Default backup lights on 89 ranger will not work need help please

My 89 Ranger's backup lights stopped working for some reason.I have replaced the backup light switch and still no lights, checked bulbs they are fine.Even clamped the switch closed and checked voltage at socket of lights no voltage at all. There is 12 volts going into switch and I also placed a jumper across connector to simulate switch being closed so I was sure I had 12 volts going back to lights and still no voltage at socket.I checked wiring diagram and noticed tail lights and backup lights share same ground, taillights work fine.Is there another relay or switch somewhere that could be bad.
Thanks,

There might be, I had my transmission on my 89 ranger this past summer, My backup lites dont work. I dont remember the exact reason for it, but it had to do with the newer transmission.
