Default Ford Falcon 170 6cyl question

I'm putting a 170 6 cyl back together, that was partially dismantled by previous owner. I've managed to reinstall all parts, hoses and tubes, except one. There is a hole/port at the driver side front corner of the block, the hole is about 1 inch round. I'm not sure what connects here, I had a 66 mustang with a 200 6cyl, and if my memory serves me correct this hole was just plugged. I found a picture online that had a hose coming off this area, but also found one that did not. Since this comes off the block Im assuming it is a cooling line, but to where. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Without seeing what exactly you are looking at, it will be difficult to give you an answer. Where di you see the pictures? This would be a huge help to give a more precise answer.

I have a general picture of a six cylinder but not sure what you are looking at to give a more definitive answer.

A hose would need a fitting to attach to - so if there are no bolt holes around it it is most likely a core plug area. Core plugs can go bad and fall out if damaged. They are pressed into place. There are usually a number of them in any given large part casting (for example: engine cylinder block and cylinder heads).

Also as long as you already have an in and out to the radiator and an in and out to the heater core that would indicate that it's a core plug hole.

If this is over top of the oil filter it is a plug. I have a picture of the ford 6 cylinder for you if you would like to have this copy?

Default The answer is

The hole is for a vent tube that points down to the ground. It is a steel tube that is held in by a clamp bracket with two bolts and it is also conected to one of the oil pan bolts. I rebuilt one for a buddy of mine.
