Default tranny problems 98 countor v6

my countour shifts fine until it warms up then the trans feels like it pulls out of gear then slams back in .i think the problem would be the trans shift solenoid but where is it and how do i replace it.i ask because haynes is full of crap (to much for the diy mechanic )the price to send it to the dealership is too much for the diy mechanic.i thank you for any help you can give me.

If it were me, I'd do what I could to get it to a dealer or a reputable tranny shop. How many miles on this tranny? Has it been serviced regularly? Fords of this vintage have a reputation of the tranny being a bit troublesome if not properly maintained. I have never owned a Contour, but have 3 Taurus's, it may be the solenoid, maybe time for a tranny rebuild. Good luck, keep us posted

It is the CD4E transmission. It could be serious trouble.

I hope for you it is not to late to replace the valve body. This is what the guy is talking about:

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the valve body without taking the tranny out of the car?

Good luck!
