the 5-0 was and is a better motor than the 4-6. those things get down right tricky when messing around with the wires all those cars have a rev limiter on them to keep from blowing up the motors. that car should have just squatted and got off the line faster than a crappy chevy.

to get around the speed limiter, tap the brake… it usually will let you go faster.
as far as acceleration.. disable the traction control feature in the computer…it limits the output of the engine and drags the brakes on a tire/wheel that is starting to spin..
change the rear end gears. police cars are not drag racers, they are for high speed and mileage… probably has 2.73-3.07 rear gears.. throw some 3.73's - 4.10's 4.30's into the pumpkin…
then buy some sticky tires to keep the tires from spinning..
have fun, the 4.6 can and does out perform the old 5.0's…
now if you can get your hands on a coyote 5.0 :-)

2008 Police Interceptor
I recently purchased a 2008 Police Interceptor (former MO Highway Patrol car). I haven't taken it to a track to check the top end yet; but for passing at highway speeds it will jump from 70 to 100+ mph very quickly .
How do I determine which gears are in the rear end?
I'm just curious.

It's either a 3.55 or a 3.27. Odds are it's a 3.27 because not very many depts. order 3.55 rears. Look on the door sticker and tell us what the rear axle code is(X5 or Z5) Sunfish

What I've read is that Vic P71s are programmed to cut power at anywhere from 125 to 135 MPH. My '03 is suppose to cut at 135, though I'll never personally find out. Compare that to the 1964 Ford NCSHP cars; one of them was clocked at 156 MPH, back in their time.
