Unhappy Crown Vic frame rust

Has any one had experience with frame rust holes on their Crown Vic? I have a 97 Vic with 131,000 miles on which I found some major rust damage to the frame behind the front passenger side wheel parallel to the transmission fluid pan and near the catalytic converter. I'm afraid it may put the old Vic. beyond economic repair.

Depending on where you drove, especially in the salt belt and now worse with the Magnesium Chloride they are using on the roads rust and corrosion has been a serious and expensive problem. In some cases there wasn't too much you could do except replace the damaged parts. This problem has even destroyed parts of vehicles that the people spreading the stuff and maintaining the roads never expected.

I was wondering about where you live, too. Most cars I've seen(Ford or otherwise) that have bad rust underneath are in the mid-atlantic on up to the northeast. I suppose midwest cars could get it bad too, though. WHen I lived in Florida, even though we were right on the Gulf, I never saw cars coming in with rust issues like I do around DC.

I don't guess undercoating could prevent this, either. I don't know exactly where they spray the stuff. Maybe serious underside washing would help.

Sorry to hear it's gotten so bad. Any pics of it?
