Has the engine been changed by any chance? Is there anything on top of the EGR valve? If there is nothing on top of the EGR valve, it is located just to the rear of the intake next to the right head. It sits on top of 2 hoses. It is not attached to the firewall. If I can remember I will take a picture tomorrow and show you where it is.

Let me preface my remark by saying I'm not a mechanic. I once had an EGR-related trouble code on one of my cars. If I remember correctly, the problem was neither a bad EGR valve, nor a bad EGR sensor; it was a cracked vacuum line. Before replacing anything else, you might want to check to make sure your vacuum lines are in good condition and connected properly.

Here is the picture. The part is just below my thumb. Move the hoses around so you can see behind the engine. I think the part you are thinking of is just to the left side of the picture. That is the Vapor Management Solenoid.
