Default Fan motor has a mind of it's own

The A/C and heater fan on my 2001 CV now has a mind of it's own. After turning on the heater lately it will work as it's suppose to and then will start blowing high then low then medium and then back to high and so on. Does it the whole time it is on. Does it whether it's on manual or automatic. Has anyone had this happen? If so, what was the cure? Don't know if this is related or not but the engine temp guage will not read until I've driven a few hundred feet no matter how long it has been idleing. Then it swings right up to where it's supposed to be.

Speculation on my part.
I suspect you have a loose or possibly corroded connection in the supply circuit to the heater and control system. A good place to start checking would be the fuse panel. Make sure the fuses are making good contact then if you can reach them move the wires around that go to the heater controls. Sometimes the circuit gets hot at a bad connection and then it can make and break contact or do strange things. I would also check the ground connections under the hood especially the ones going to and from the engine and sheet metal. Right now I can't see any connection between the temp gauge reading and the heater operation except for a possible common ground connection.

Thanks for the ideas hanky. I was thinking along the same lines. I does seem to do some of the changing when I hit bumps in the road or there is vibration.
