P71 advice
Hello to all - I'm new to the forum and have never owned a Ford before, but I'm considering a 98-present P71 for use as a daily driver/business use. I travel about 1500 miles/mo for work, and I've heard good things about the CV's longevity. Any opinions out there? What can I expect in terms of repairs, mileage, reliability? I know my way around cars and don't mind doing my own work. Most of the ones in OH are between 80-110k in mileage, and the prices are pretty good.
Thanks for the input!

RE: P71 advice
ive got a 98. best car ive gotton for the money. my mpg is 16city22hy.
always in that range. very reliable. ive had it less than a year. for better
mpg and reliability you might consider honda or toyota ? but you will
definately pay more. check consumer reports. very good resourse.

RE: P71 advice
I'm driving my 3'rd Crown Vic. I owned a 93,(which was broadsided by a 94 Caddy & totaled), a 99 & now I have about 50k on my 04 Sport. I'm a dedicated CV owner, as you might notice. I've owned most of the other makes & feel the CV is the best car for the money. I don't know how familiar you are with the CV but the Sport model is basically a P71 with a leather interior & a floor shift. I'm in Mo & average 20-21mpg in town & 25-27 on the highway. My advice on getting a P71 is th have your mechanic do a thorough inspection of the vehicle in question. Some departments take goodcare of their vehicles but some don't. If you were to go into Crown Vic.net, a site where 95% of the members drive P71's you will probably find someone that is familar with your area & could advise you where to find a good used P71

RE: P71 advice
I own a 2002 P71 retired from OHSP and it currently has 130K+ on it. I regularly get 22+ on the highway.
Before purchasing, visit http://www.crownvic.net - let them know what your looking for and what area you're located in. With over 10,000 registered members on the site, I'm sure someone there could help ya.
and for the record, 95% of CVNs members do NOT drive P71s. The members cars range in variety from 92-97 aero CVs and GMQs to 98+ and we have several town car owners as well. Many people retrofit an aftermarket black honeycomb grill to increase airflow to the radiator which unfortunately makes some uneducated folks think it's a P71 when it's not.
