Default Town Car/Vic question

Hey i'm not too fimilar with Fords but am with cars and i was just wondering some things about these.... but we need a car and a friend offered to give us their Town Car.

1.) are the Town Car and Vic the same car but just the Town Car is more refined?

2.) is there anything like problem areas with these cars? the Town car has 230,000 miles on her and i dont know the year yet... will get back when i find out the year though.

3.) how easy are these automobiles to work on? aka changing spark plugs and such...cause i know that some V8 and V6's are hard to change the spark plugs.

When you post year and engine size, it will be easier to answer some of the questions.

ok its a 1998.... with the 302 in it.... i found out that there was an "add on" seat heater and one of the wires got pinched and started an electrical fire... but other than that the car is in great condition....he just replaced the tranny and radiator...and the whole trunk is filled with extra parts...including a wiring harness for the Lincoln.... it didn't pass inspection though due to the fact that the high beams dont work nor the horn...but everything else does.

If it's a 1998 it does not have a 302 in it (at least not from the factory). The 1998 Town Car (and Grand Marquis and Crown Victoria) all came standard with a 4.6L OHC V8 engine; not the older 302 OHV V8 engine. If it indeed has a 302 then it's not the original engine.

To be perfectly honest, from your description it sounds like a piece of junk...electrical fires, high beams & horn not working, etc. It could easily be a money pit for you with no end in sight. If you're handy with a wrench and a pretty decent mechanic it might be liveable. If you have to pay someone else to fix you might want to pass on this "gift".

i love working on cars so i'm pretty good with them...and it is coming with a new wiring harness for the car so all i would have to do is some wiring and it should fix it.... the guy that is giving it to us loves cars and loves working on them and he babies all his cars... but he just doesn't have the time to do the wiring.

oh and i know i was just on cars.com to check out the standard equip. and such and i was like wait... 4.6L isn't a 302 hmmm....

oh and it has 220,000 on not 230,000....

and I honestly dont like Fords and in about a year we're probably get rid of it... we just need a 3rd car right now cause our craport (import) Subaru finally died.
