Hi again,
found a relay and replaced old one.
pumps now run so started it and ran for only 2 minutes and died.
Tried to start again but the starter did not disengage so back to some more work.
and trick to do this on automatic?

thanks

It is usually an easy starter to remove only 2 bolts if I remember correctly. Also one cable from the relay on the fender and an earth cable . By the time you get it all straightened out it should go a while.
If you get a replacement starter , make sure you compare it to the one removed because the starters are different for a std shift compared to an automatic. One has a longer nose.

Hi
new starter and starter relay ( it had fused in side and so was always closed).
Started engine , pumps worked but after 2-3 minutes it died again.
able to restart but with same result.
have not got it to operating temp to use KOEO test to get a code.
will try tomorrow.

thanks

Hi,
tried again and same but after the first stop when started again it seemed that the choke had come on as the exhaust had much darker smoke in discharge.
same as when it went into "limp home mode"
Tried to get error messages with a ford code reader that gave in initial "error 95" but this time no clicking from the motor and no messages not even the "little square " that indicates it is receiving a code.

???

Do you have a code reader that is compatible with OBD L ?

If not, you could be chasing a wild goose, meaning false info.

There is no choke with fuel injected system.

If the engine restarts easily right after the stall, it could be fuel or spark related.
One way to eliminate the fuel question is to hook up a fuel pressure gauge on the schrader fitting on the fuel rail and when the engine stalls if fuel pressure drops way down , lack of fuel , if not possible ign system problem.
Depending on the results obtained will determine where we go from there.

Hi,
has been suggested that it may be "can angle sensor"
where would be found as no real info in my workshop manual.
thanks

The next step if you don't want to confirm fuel pressure, could be to confirm if you have spark available to the plugs when it quits running.
