1996 E350 Super Club Wagon Power Steering / Radiator
I'm a total car noob. The only car I've owned until now was bought new and is still under warranty. Please frame replies accordingly ^^
I just picked up a used 96 E350 Super Club Wagon and I think it's a 5.8. I'm not 100% sure on that so if anyone can tell me how to find out that'd be swell ^^
The serpentine belt needed immediate replacement so we did that. The radiator was also leaking so we put in some Rislone Liquid Aluminum Cooling System/Radiator Stop Leak and it stopped spraying everywhere. If anyone has any input on whether or not this will last or if I need to shell out the 800$+ to get it replaced that'd be swell.
It seems to not have fully sealed the leak(s).
In replacing the belt we found the idler pulley had old belt pieces fused onto it so we've just picked up new idler & I figured while I was at it, it couldn't hurt to replace the tensioner pulley as well. Those'll both go in on a less rainy day.
These ended up both going in today and the wife is very happy with how not squealy the van is to start up. Horray!
My main question is this: Why would the power steering hoses both look like high pressure hoses? At partsource they gave me one high pressure that looks basically the same as what's in there but the return looks totally different. Judging by the hose they supplied me with for the return it looks like I could get -just- the hose, not the metal ends, unscrew the hose clamps, replace the hose, do it back up and be fine. As mentioned though they both look like the pressure hose does (with the crimped in hose) and so that makes that sort of repair not possible.
Does this vehicle -need- two pressure hoses for the power steering for any reason?
It also looks next to impossible to reach the end of the hoses that connect to the pump. Is the only way to access these by removing the pump first?
