Default 2006 E 350 has started burning oil.

howdy My e350 has recently started burning oil, and i need to check a few things. 1 i need to find out if i have a 2 valve 5.4 l or the dreded 3 valve engine, How can i check to make sure what engine i have in my van. 2. i need to check my pcv valve and hoses but I dont have any idea where to find them or even what they look like . This van has seen regular oil changes every 3k or there abouts done by me except the last 2 oil changes done at a valvoline oil change place (coincidentally is the time frame for when i started burning oil). mileage is currently 156k. i am the second owner and i bought it with 145k mi. It has been a good and reliable veheicle for me.
my bigest issue with it before this has been getting the 2 part air cleaner back together correctly still haven't managed it if anyone has any hints for that please let me know.
if someone has a manual for the 2006 e 350 would you please see if there is some illustration or drawings of where i can find the pcv valve and possibly post them. this engine bay looks like it is going to be a pure slice of hell to get into.

You can download an owner's manual here for your van.

You didn't mention the rate of consumption. After checking the PCV system, breather and for any leaks, it may be better money wise to just maintain the oil level than to tear down the engine. BTW- your 5.4 is 2V.

We don't know just what type or wt oil the other place installed. You might ask them to make sure they installed the correct type for your engine. The incorrect motor oil can lead to problems .

Your van probably takes 5W-20. If there was an oil mix up, a heavier oil more than likely was used and that won't cause increased oil usage. The fast lube place may have left something disconnected associated with the engine's ventillation plumbing or components.
