I believe your vehicle is a 2011. If that is correct , it has MANY modules. It has a body computer and a powertrain computer and a security system with most likely a coded key.
It may not look like it is coded , but rest assured it is ! If you doubt this , just go get a regular key made that is not programmed and try to see if it will start your vehicle.
Some unprogrammed keys will get the starter to operate, but the engine will never start OR the starter will not work at all.
Ford started installing security systems as far back as 2000 in certain models. Later years different models had factory systems installed
Most folks don't bother to look in the owner's manual. but there are loads of info in there.

Hi, that's my E250 and I guess the significance of the key being coded is the presence of a security module that exists to recognize the coded key and respond appropriately? So if it's a coded key there ais/are more possible sources of voltage draw?
Yet I went to the largest, local ford Dealer for key copies several years ago and left with 4 keys for south of $20.... Could these really be coded? They look like stamped steel with little rubber/plastic boots on the grip. My 8 year old took my manual out of the glove box (when she was six) and to date it has not surfaced. Hard to say if it ever will. Guess I could find the info on line or order an original manual if they still exist. It was a beefy, well put together publication as I recall
