Default 2007 E-450 Ambulance. 6.0L issues and "A" Post Crack!

I am the Maintenance Coordinator for an ambulance service in south east Wisconsin. I have a fleet to 5 ambulances, 4 of which are the 7.3L diesels and one 6.0L. The 6.0 is causing 90% of my issues. History: 2007 E-450 with the 6.0L Diesel with 95,000 miles. Horton Ambulance Box on the back with a GVW of 14,500lbs. I have had to replace 4 fuel injectors, 2 EGR valves, 1 EGR cooler, and 1 turbo. As of right now all that work has been warranted. Looking for advise now that the warranty is about to expire. The latest issue is the passenger side "A" post is cracked. Imagine the passenger side "A" post where it meets the roof line...... 4 inches back from that point a crack begins and goes up to the drip edge, the crack then goes forward to the windshield. It is cracked completely through, you can see it flex as we drive down the road. Iv taken it to a number of different auto body shops and a Ford Body shop. First off no one has ever seen this and secondly no one knows how to go about fixing it. Has any one ever seen this and if so, how do I go about fixing it.

I'm sure you don't need to be reminded to have it on record before the warranty expires.
Since this type emergency vehicle is subject to strsses that some vehicles may never see, I would go after Ford or whoever you purchased it from for a complete new cab and chassis. This sort of thing is not supposed to happen and it could very well be due to poor workmanship on the manufacturer's part. In either case you're talking big bucks for a rig like this and municipal budgets don't provide for this sort of problem.
Go for it !!

We are actually a not-for-profit organization so the money crunch is even worse for us right now. I have been going back and forth with Ford's Field Engineer and warranty clime specialist, its sounding like due to the age and mileage of this vehicle they are not going to cover any of it. I had the ambulance manufacture here 2 days ago to make sure it not on their end...... none of the ambulance box mounts or welds were broken so it appears to be a Ford issue. Keep in mind this ambulance was never in any kind of impact, the crack happen all by it self. If when all is said and done and Ford denies any clime......... what is the next course of action?

Has Ford offered any kind of "good will Gesture" since the wrong kind of publicity would not be in Ford"s best interest?

Hey all, you should know about Sarad.com -- they're in Brooklyn, NY and stock a lot of parts of ambulances/ambulettes/Ford vans. (or they can get you parts direct from Ford, a lot cheaper than any dealer). They're really helpful guys, check out their website

Wrenchone & nbroetzmann:

I think you two need to exchange info and communicate with each other (or have your lawyers talk).
