Question '99 E150 power locks problem

Hello all. I have a 1999 E150 conversion van. I'm having an issue with the power locks. Both switches up front will unlock all doos as expected, as will the key fob. However, neither of the switches of the key fob will lock the doors (except for the middle passenger side door). Any ideas what could be causing this? My first guess would be either a relay of some kind or a fuse (if there are separate fuses for lock and unlock). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

You would be correct. I took it to the dealer and had them check it out and keyless entry module was the diagnosis... unfortunately they charge such a ridiculous amount to replace it that I'm going to try and see if I can find the part for cheaper and do it myself. They quoted me 3.5 hours labor because of where it's located even though once home I was able to get to the dang thing in 5 minutes. Anyway, if I replace myself do I reprogram the key fob same way as I would a new one?

Also, anyone happen to have any idea where I can pick up one of these keyless entry modules? Dealer quote is $215 and that seems kinda high. I would think I could find one much cheaper someplace. Any suggestions?

You may have some luck using your local auto dismantler and have them run it on their hotline for an expanded search.. Doubt you stumble accross the exact unit on one of the auction sites, or that the local dismantler would just happen to have the correct RKE module.. Might be worth turning over a few rocks though )

I'm going to make a few calls on Monday. There are a few salvage yards that came up during my search. I just need to make sure I get one that's compatible correct? I mean, if I get one from a 1999 or 2000 E150 it likely should work in my vehicle? I also assume I'll have to reprogram my key fob to work with the new unit

I eneded up going to Silver State Ford website and ordering the part from there. Significantly cheaper than what the dealer here wanted. Had to check with local ford dealer parts department because my vehicle just happened to be in a tricky in between type of place where depending on when it was manufactured the module was one of two different kinds so it would have been very easy for me to screw that up going the salvage yard route.

Well, here's a little bonus for me. I'm waiting for the new part to arrive. Meanwhile, here in Orlando we're going through a bit of a unusual cold spell. It's about 38 degrees here this morning. So, I go to work as usual when I get out of the van I push the driverside lock down and hit the lock button on the key fob (it still locks the middle doors). I then start my trek around the vehicle to lock the back door then the passenger door. Much to my surprise they are already locked. Befuddled I use the key fob to unlock the doors, which has always worked, and then use it again to lock them and low and behold it actually locked all the doors. So, it appears that in very cold weather the RKE module responds as expected. Just thought that was an intersesting find this morning.
