Cluster came back with double mileage
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. The local Ford place was no help. I just had the transmission rebuilt in my 1995 E-250. After the rebuild, the spedometer was not working, and the shop told me I needed a new cluster. A used one was procured, and now it's showing 320k miles instead of the 166k it had going in. Unless they test drove the **** out of it, that's not acceptable. I'm being told by the shop and the Ford place that there's nothing they can do. With 320k miles, my resale value is nil. Not that I'm planning on selling it anytime soon, but down the road, I might. Do I have any recourse?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I do not know how the old clusters work but nowadays the mileage is kept in the cluster and not elsewhere in the vehicle.
If the odometer is electric then the vehicle the used cluster came out of probably had 320K miles on it.
For example a few years ago with my mazda I needed a new cluster and bought a used one that was about 10k higher miles then my vehicle was at and I just waited to install it till my vehicle mileage approximately matched the used cluster mileage.

There are electrical tools to alter mileage on clusters and it is done quite a bit, but most folks don't realize it when purchasing used vehicles.
If you check around you probably can purchase one, don;t know the cost whether it would be worth it for you.
