convert van to standard transmission 4wd to 2wd conversion?
As part ofthemotor deal for my 300 L6, I"ve "inherited" a 5 speed transmission from a F150 4WD . Is there any wayto convert this to 2WD via changing the rear part of the case ? I'd like to make an E250 manual transmission
Is it easier to justsell the 4WD tranny and buy a 2WD?
I'd like to keep the tranny I have because it's low mileage (48,000) and in nice shape.

The transmission is the same for @WD and 4WD. It's the "transfercase" that makes a 4wd. A E250 is a 3/4 ton van and this transmisson would put the shift leaver, far behind the driver. The only way a manual transmission can be used, is with a remote linkage set up. I doubt such a linkage is available for a five speed. I assume you are talking about a manusl trans. .

i agree, the transmission is the same, but it appears the last portion of the case is different. The 4wd bolts to a transfer case with a flange and has a spline for input to the transfer case, and the rear part of the 2wd trannyis more tapered and appears to be splined for the universal joint. I'm not sure if the splines are the same or not.
upon measuring, since it's a top shift out of a f150, it appears the shifter would be beside but not too far behind the driver, i'll measure next time i'm working on it. I could always bend a funky shifter

That may be an adapter at the end of the tranny. (However, I'm not sure.) The bent shifter may be awkward. Do a dry run first. At the most it will be a new hole in the van floor. Sounds like a neat idea but you don't want it to be a pita to drive.
