Help with electrical, is this a ground short?
I have a 5r110w that will not shift into 3rd. I get code p0761 solenoid C issue. But I have all sorts of electrical gremlins, I had previously fixed the TCC code by finding a loose wire at the connector.
I have disconnected the transmission harness and put one probe on the engine ground, and one on the pins leading to the computer. On a lot of them I am getting a resistance reading of 4 ohms and on one or two completely open and one or two completely closed. Im expecting nothing, this seems like a ground short. This doesnt seem right, does this mean the computer is bad? The harness doesnt appear melted and ive even taken it all apart and separated it a bit in the back of the engine but no difference. Where can I find what readings I should be expecting here? I have the 5r110w repair manualand it just mentions the resistance of the solenoids.

Unless you know which pins at the trans are for solenoid "C" you can't get an accurate measurement..
A capable scan tool can do the test and save you a lot of time and trouble. Worth considering.
The long way around this would consist of removing the valve body cover on the trans and trace the wires to where your manual says is solenoid "C".
I don't believe you want to get that involved, although I have been wrong before,,,,,,,,,, maybe once,,,,,,,,lol. DON'T YOU BELIEVE IT !

You really need a wiring layout to effectively troubleshoot this. Your resistance readings towards the PCM may or may not be indicative of a problem. It's more common to have a solenoid issue than a computer issue. .Any metallic piece suspended in the fluid will get magnetically attracted to a solenoid will affect its operation too. Some of these solenoids are not very expensive or difficult to change. If I were to try something. I would suspect a solenoid before a computer.
