Default Location of fuel filter

Hello every one. Recently purchased a 2003 e350 super van with 7.3Liter diesel engine.

Trying to figure out location of fuel filter and will appreciate any hint.

Thanks

Welcome to the site..

Fuel filter is inside the fuel/water seperator housing in the center/valley area of the engine. Under the large black cap. To the backside/left of the housing is a yellow filter housing drain lever. Be sure to drain and relieve the pressure before removing the cap.. Some of the aftermarket replacement filters come with the cap as part of the filter. Most vendors offer them either way, I'd stay with the OEM cap and filter style.

A very wise tip, as I've replaced a lot of the aftermarket ones that leak. And yes, the seal that comes with the new filter should be installed with the 'pointy' end up.

I've replaced some aftermarket units that have a non direction (squared) O ring too. Guess they had too many 'leakers' from installers not read'n the directions Plus,, some of the quick lube places will put their assembly on and 'toss' your OEM cap.. Then, next time if your not aware of the swap done, and happen to get an OEM style,, you got no cap!

Also, you may want to have a drain pan (larger is better) under the passenger/right side of the engine, forward of the right motor mount area, to capture the fuel being released from the filter housing. You can also slip a small hose (if you have one) onto the drain tube hanging down to better direct the fuel release otherwise it tends to drip off of some of the underside parts..
