Default options for fixing damaged van seats....

I have a 2001 E150 van, and like most older vans, the drivers seat is a mess. The cover is cracked and the outer pad is torn open with the foam exposed. I have seen replacement foam and covers on ebay, both perforated and non perforated, and have been surprised at how much money you can spend rebuilding seats. Before I go that route I wanted to know if anybody else has gone through this and what worked best for them...

Thanks.

I used to work on a lot of commercial trucks, we normally would send the seats out and have partial repair/rebuild done . As long the remaining portions were healthy, paneling and foam repairing the seat always seemed a better fix. Of course if the seat was destroyed, a complete repair done.

We tried quite a few covers, weave material, vinyl, foam repaired/patched, hog ringed in place, but quality just never seemed to up to par. A good heavy cover is an option, but sometimes a tailored fit, color match to any other seating seems to come into play..

A good quality car seat cover may do the trick here. It obviously won't repair the seat but will provide a cosmetic solution to make your car seat look decent once again.

I got a set of car seat covers online from here: Neoprene Car Seat Covers - Waterproof & Custom Fit, and they've been great.
