Rear Brake Shoes don't fit??
Need some tips...have a 2000 Ford E150 Van, 4.2l....At this point I have taking the shoes of 5Xs???? They won't fit! Part# Delco 723, is what I also purchased last time from Autozone and replaced them...….
So what gives? Thought maybe it was emergency brake that wasn't all the way up, after installing them the 4th time.....checked inside vehicle....it is all the way up?
Anyone ever have an issues with the brake shoes not sitting on pin at the 12 O'clock position when you put them on...(like they are suppose to).
thanks

Welcome to the site,,
Both sides the same?
If the strut bar is removed, do the shoe top anchors then close tight against the center pin? Unless the wheel cylinders didn't retract all the way (doubtful if both sides, but possible) the only thing that would keep the top anchor from making contact with the centering pin would be the strut bar (installed correctly?). Part number looks correct on the shoes, but possible an issue there...

If everything is right, you should be able to rock the shoes back and forth (hopefully you lubed the contact points on the backing plate) when you position your hands at 9 and 3 oclock positions and the shoes at the top should be on the anchoring pin.. Look and see that the parking brake link bar is loose. If it is snug, your e- brake is stuck.Make sure the large (secondary) shoe is in the rear position.

You might want to check,
Even though the parking brake pedal may be all the way up , the cable going to the rear shoes may be stuck and need to be pulled to the rear to the fully released position.
This can prevent the bar from allowing the shoes to go to the full return position.. Very common problem due to foreign material getting between the cable and casing preventing the inside cable from returning to full release position with just the return spring between the cable end and cable casing. This is one of those problems that comes from the parking brake not being used enough.

^^^ kinda what I was pushing for on removing the strut/link bar. Would eliminate an applied /stuck cable, and generally more of the PB lever comes into view if so. Also, a stuck cable generally shows up on the cable equalizer, or sloppy/loose/drooping cable tension. Simple system, something is overlooked... And, who hasn’t gotten linings that were off sized/arc, crooked linings, and shoe cores that weren’t exact matches, or damaged..........

Ohhhh, let's not forget the rear brake shoes that lasted a very long time, unbeatable quality,
because the driver rarely backed up and the frozen self adjusters.and it wasn't ice ! lol
It's nice when we have some folks that are so understanding , isn't it ?
