Steering column changeover
Greetings. The bearings in the NON TILT steering column on the 95 e150 i am working on have failed and consequently have wallered out the column housing making replaing the bearings futile. Problem is i cant find a USED NON TILT steering column in the USA. Was wondering if a TILT wheel steering column could be put it its place on this vehicle. The Tilt wheel columns are readily available for some reason. Thanks to anyone that can help me out on this one.

I have never changed one from rigid to tilt steering.
From what I recall the only concern that comes up is if the clock spring on the replacement assy is good and not damaged because once the lower u-joint is removed the steering wheel can rotate an excessive amount and break the clockspring.you would need to find a way to prevent that , and the ign lock on the column should be able to do that, but make sure it can't turn. Lock it in the straight ahead position. This job can get a little tedious because there are lots of things to disconnect and reconnect. And you would need to change the ignition key tumbler so you could use your old key. Might be a good idea to get a second opinion on this.
