Default transmission fluid capacity

ok rookie question here but Ive done some yahoo searches and cannot find a straight answer. I have a 1997 e350 with the v-10. I just changed trans fluid and filter. I also drained tourqe convertor. how much fluid dose a full change like this take? the guy at o-reilys said my kit was a 6.5 -8-5qt. he assumed 8.5 was draining it all. I am up to 9.5 quarts and still cannot get trans to operate correctly. it will move and drive but acts like its low on fluid and iam barly on the dipstick. Also is there a way to get air out of converter after draining or dose it take care of itself as you run the vehicle?

Depending on amount drained, 15 quarts +/- a bit. Converter will purge any air on its own. During the fill, before the final quart or two, move the selector between all gears to move the fluid through, Adjust the final level accordingly..
