Default 2009 Map update notice

Hello all!
I just got a notice that my 2009 Ford Edge Sport needs a MAP update. I would think the $2k I spent on the Nav and sync system was enough but now Ford would like another $200. I was thinking that there has to be another way without sending another $200 to update and I wanted to see if anybody had any advice? Or work around or the map file willing to share?

Being a 2009, your mapping database is probably 3 versions old. The latest version for installation is V5.1x. The last version was released in 2010. All mapping databases used by all manufactures including Garmin and such come from NAVTEC. You use to be able to buy the updates directly from them at a slightly lower price. However, they now point you to your specific MFG for the updated versions. Depending on how much you use/need your NAV system along with needing updated information (construction new build roads/businesses) will determine if you WANT the update. I have a 2010 MKZ that has the last version (V3.1x I believe). We rarely use it for in-town stuff and mostly rely on our Garmin that has the LIFETIME updates. The Garmin is just easier for us. We've gotten several notices from Lincoln to buy the update which we threw out. The lates that came last week now has a $25 or $50 rebate (Pre-paid debit card) good thru Nov purchases. We'll probably wait till then to get ours. Until then, the Garmin goes road tripping with us.
