Liftgate sensor not working after Trailer hitch install
I had a Uhaul trailer hitch installed on a 2018 Edge Sport.
The liftgate sensor used to open and close with the motion of your foot. That doesn't work anymore. Guessing the sensor is blocked.
Is there a way to move the sensor or do something to get it working again?
It's my wifes car and she uses the foot sensor thing all the time.
Thank you

There are two sensors, a lower and an upper sensor, based on the workshop manual they are long sensors that run under the rear bumper.
If you want to look at them to see if you could move them you would need to remove the trim panel, it just clips in place, the two sensors are pictured below.
I have no idea how important the angle or distance between sensors is but if your hitch sticks out by much then I would think its unlikely that you could move the sensors so they work like normal, its possible but you would likely have to lengthen the wiring harness for both sensors.
My suggestion would be to go to a Ford dealer that has a vehicle same year with a Ford trailer hitch and see how different the hitches look to see how drastically different your is.
If your wife really likes the foot sensor ability I would go to your Ford dealer and find out how much it would cost to buy and install a Ford trailer hitch installed. Then call Uhaul and see if they will remove the hitch and give you a refund, somewhat doubtful, especially whatever the labor charge way, but if you dont ask you dont get. Of course make sure Uhaul gives you in writing how much they will refund you.
Add the Ford total and the original Uhaul bill, subtract whatever the Uhaul refund would be, decide if a trailer hitch with working foot sensor is worth that amount to you guys.

Thank you for the diagrams. I will take a better look when get home.
One of the reasons I went to UHaul over Ford was that the dealership wanted $650 for the trailer hitch installed.. Uhaul.. $234.
It was a no brainer.
Hopefully I can come up with a solution.

I did not get the wiring package.

And hopefully it costs less than $400.
The advantage of going to the dealer is to avoid paying for mistakes like these. U-Haul can claim that they don't guarantee that their hitches won't interfere with x, y, and z vehicle systems, and then it's your problem to deal with. A Ford dealer wouldn't be able to take that route.
