Default 2009 Escape will not shift out of park

I have a 2009 Escape that will not shift out of park. After doing some research and finding out that the brake lights don't work either I think it is the brake light switch that either needs to be cleaned or replaced. I was wondering if anyone knew of a sight that could walk me through finding the brake light switch ( I know it is attached to the brake pedal, I just don't know exactly where or how it is attached ) as everything I read says this should be an easy fix that I should be able to do myself. I am pretty sure this is something my extended warranty company will as always say isn't covered due to normal wear and tear, so I would like to try this myself.

I appreciate any help on this.

So, after watching some interesting "How to" videos which were completely wrong, I discovered that the brake light switch was extremely easy to replace, taking less than 5 mins. Once I replaced the brake light switch my brake lights worked again and I was able to shift out of park. Thanks for your suggestion and I appreciate all of the advice that was provided to others in this forum which allowed me to easily fix my problem.
