Default 4WD and Snow Traction

My wife and I are contemplating a 2014 Titanium with the 4WD option on the smaller engine. The main reason for wanting 4wd is we have a STEEP driveway and her Honda van has a REAL hard time even getting off the street if there is any snow on our driveway. I'm not ready to give up my my car, but it too has problems, but not as bad as the van, so it is a driveway problem, not just a question of tires. In addition to the traction issue, the age of her van makes it the candidate for the trade in: all extended warranties have expired.

I'd like to hear from any 2013 Escape 4WD owners, since that model is pretty close to the newer one, about their snow experience. This is urban snow we're talking about, not the real deep off road stuff.

Thanks, everyone!
