I am assuming that you have been told that you need a tone ring, which requires you to get a new axle halve, Thanks to this site I found out that I too had the same problem, I confirmed this on Sunday by taking the tire off and rotor and found that is is indeed broken,

1st I would like to say thanks to all you guys for having this site and posting on it.

Now Ihave an appointment on Wednesday to get the front passenger tone ring replaced, I have an 2002 escape, and the dealer told that even though Ford says to change the axle, you can buy the rear ring and they can press it on you existing axle, so instead of a $700 cdn fix, he has quoted me $225.00, so we'll see and I will post my outcome.

Now if you want to disable the ABS, just remove the fuse.

I will also post pics tonight of what a tone ring looks like and you can see where mine was broken.

Thanks Again guys

Why can't you just tack weld the tone ring to the piece it sits next to and call it good? Both pieces rotate around together and it would keep the tone ring from slipping out of place.

you can't do that unless, you are a very good carver and can get the same profile, as it runs through the abs sensor, and besides that seems to be a hillbilly mickey mouse way to fix your brakes.

you know those things you need to stop your car with.
