Ignition
2010 Escape. I have to turn the key 2-5 times before the starter engages. Sounds to me like the ignition cylinder is not making contact to engage the starter. Ford dealership said it sounds like the starter. I said the starter cranks fine when it turns over. He said it has to find that sweet spot on the flywheel. Nothing about the starter makes sense to me. In my mind its not making contact in the ignition cylinder. I can slam the key on and it works. Comments?

I am a little concerned with the telephone diagnosis offered.
The real problem is very likely the ign switch module that is located under the steering wheel on the steering column. The contacts wear after time and use and the module assy needs to be replaced. This involves considerable finesse and patience along with a steering wheel puller and a few special sockets/tools. Not something I would recommend to the average "do it your selfer." Best left to an experienced person/shop, also requires battery disconnect due to air bag involvement. Module is not cheap and best obtained from Ford..
