Default '87 Escort shorted headlamp switch

FIRST HEADLITE SWITCH FUSED ABOUT 1996.. HAPPENED TO BE IN OHIO ON A VACATION TRIP.. LAST 12-8-04 THE REPLACEMENT SWITCH FUSED AND DRAGGED THE BATTERY DOWN CAUSING THE WIFE TO GET A TOW TRUCK AND BRING HOME THE VEHICLE... NOW HAVE INSTALLED SWITCH #3...
THE ONLY EXPLANATION FOR THIS IN MY MIND IS THAT WHEN FORD WENT TO THE HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS ON THE ESCORT THEY FAILED TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE EXTRA CURENT DRAW ON THE SWITCH - OVER TIME..HAVE THREE OTHER VEHICLES --ALL OLDER THAN THE ESCORT AND HAVE NOT HAD THAT PROBLEM.. ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION OR ANOTHER THOUGHT AS TO WHY IT HAPPENS...
REPLACING THE LIGHT SWITCH IS A BAS---- OF A JOB..
