'89 Escort GT... and surrounding years
Ahoy there! My hubby and I have owned a white Ford Escort GT since it's purchase in 1989... we took delivery the day our oldest daughter turned 4. Daddy jokingly told her 'happy birthday', and she has claimed it as her car ever since! lol Well, now she is 20 and helping her dad rebuild the engine on it after she drove it with no coolant and low on oil. Yeah.. ouch!! So, she says when she is done fixing it she is buying it from us, but I beg to differ. It is our most economical vehicle and also the car we plan on using to teach the rest of the kids to drive in, especially since we want them to learn on a 'stick'. She wants it so bad, loves that car, that we are currently beginning to look for another one like it, either for her or for us.
What I need to know, if anyone out there can help, is what years, before and/or after '89, the Escort GT was produced with the same basic body type and features? Anyone know? If you could enlighten me, I would very much appreciate the help! Thanks!!

'91 Ford Escort GT
I had an Escort GT - the hatchback, right? this was one of the years that Ford and Miata collaborated, and while the car was visually a Ford, the engine and (I think) the transmission were Miata. It was a little disconcerting when we first needed a part, to find out it ws a Miata! I have to say I have only seen a couple of them, and not for a long time, but I really loved the car.
Try a general search for the whole US, depending on how desperate you are to find one. I had an alternator fire in mine, burned all the way to the firewall. Then in 2006 I found an Escort ZX-2 Sport Rally, a really fun car, very reliable with lots of performance upgrades - it might be easier to find one of those, even though there were only about 2,000 to 2,500 of them made.
