Default 98 escort shifting problem

I have a 98 2.0 with a 5 speed. When i shift into 2nd every once in a while starting to get more frequent, it grinds alittle before going in. I have the clutch all the way in and it only does it in 2nd. Any ideas? thanks

Hello and good day:

This sounds like it may be a "Throw out Bearing". Have you taken it to a local Reliable Transmission Shop for a Quot??
I am not a Transmission Expert...but you may want to ease up on driving it till you get it checked out.

Possibly a syncronizer, mis-adjusted clutch(maybe but unlikely), low clutch fluid, weak clutch. As Six suggested, you may want to get it checked out. Lots of transmission shops will diagnose for free or very low cost. It is still drivable.

It still drives just grinds alittle when i go to put it in gear. Its more of a real fast grind right before it goes in.

That sounds like a syncronizer. I would go to a shop and have them give you an estimate and diagnosis. As I stated, most will give you free estimates. If they give you an estimate, they have a good idea what is wrong.
