Default belt problem

Gentlemen, and ladies, I have a problem with my wifes 2000 zx2. If she drives through a deep puddle of rain, or other moisture, the car kicks off the accessory belt,(serpentine belt)namely p/s, alt., and whatever is associated with it. This has happened numerous times. Does anyone have a solution to this? I heard the chrystler had a solution to this problem, but FORD has not given a resolution to the problem, such as a belt guard?

Default

this happens for a couple reasons:
- puddles too deep and should not be crossed by any car
- splash shielding removed from car allowing water to flow freely onto lower pulleys
- weak tensioner
- wrong belt installed

a weak tensioner is usually what causes this. if this car has ever had the tensioner replaced and it was done so with an aftermarket unit then this could cause it. the unit sold at autozone have very weak tension and will come off occasionally when conditions are dry. A belt too long will also cause this. This is where i would start
