Default BIG QUESTION!!!

i have a 2000 ZX2...the ZX2 and the focus SVT have the same engine but the SVT is obviously faster with greater power....and it has a 6 speed tranny...i was wondering if anyone knew what made the power difference from the zx2 to the svt? and also i REALLY wanted to know if the SVT tranny(6 speed) will bolt up to the zx2 motor?

Default RE: BIG QUESTION!!!

haha i love that some1 else found a faster car with the same angine. i just found out the 2002 mercury cougar has the same enging as the zx2 also. the only thing that makes them so much faster is the gearing ratios in the transmission. your best bet is to get down there and physically see if the tranny will fit on it, i mean yea it has the same engine but the body underneath may be different which might make it really hard to put that tranny in. im actually still in the process of trying to put the cougar 5 speed in my car since they have the same engines. but good luck with it.

Default RE: BIG QUESTION!!!

First off, the cougar is nowhere near as fast as a ZX2 unless it has a 2.5. It's 600 lbs heavier. And to answer the OP, the differences between ZX2 Zetec and SVT Zetec are as follows:

SVT: higher flow racing cylinder heads, higher flow exhaust, larger throttle body, racing camshaft, various intake modifications, and I beleive...higher octane requirements...I think. And of course, a racing programed ECU.

(stock ZX2 0-60 7.8sec)
(Cougar 4 cyl. 8+)
