Where can I get an O-ring for the distributor on my '88 Escort Pony? The dealer says they are discontinued and none of the parts stores (Autozone, NAPA etc.) have them. They don't seem to correspond to standard U. S. or metric sizes, either.

 

Never mind. I went to Huntsville Rubber & Gasket(Huntsville, AL) and they had them in stock. Not specifically for the Escort, but a size and material that would work.

 

Wrong again. The ring they sold me will not work. The cross section is too large to allow it to squeeze down(fills the groove) and the O.D. is 1.875", whereas the distributor is 1.850". The distributor will not enter the bore on the back of the cylinder head, no matter how hard I push.

 

I have found that what one dealer says/does another will be different. If you can contact a different Dealer(s) you just might find one that can and will be able to assist you with locating the proper o ring. There are also some on line places that you can try. I don't have the links handy, but will try to help you find one if you are not successful. hanky
