Ford Excursion So the size of the Expedition is not enough for you, then the massive Excursion is the way to go. With options including a powerful diesel engine, the Excursion is like a tractor trailer built for family use.

Default Popping Noise

I have a 2005 Ford Excursion Diesel, and everytime it goes from first to second gear there is a distinct popping noise. I can feel it under my left foot as I drive. I know that this is a common problem on Fords...but when I take it to the dealership, they never seem to know what to do? Any suggestions as to what this problem is? It is driving me crazy. Thank you-

Try and pay special attention to how many gear changes occur before you hear the 'pop' or clunk.. If it occurs between/during the 2-3 upshift, is concidered a normal function for the 5R110.. Not only on my own, but every 5R I've driven has had the clunk/pop to some degree if you pay 'enough' attention to the shifts.. Some worse then others (like mine) but will usually quiet after 3-4 sets of shifts as the unit heats up or with extended driving... May have a pattern, or re occur after a short 'sit time' with the engine off as well.. More so if the units cools.. Sometimes mine will pop/clunk after a 'set or two' of completed shifts after a trip on the highway.. Usually as mine,, the clunk seems to come from the floor area, but may have a bit of a 'bump' that accompanies the pop/clunk..

Some 5R100's have a clunk/pop on a roll away or launch (usually for R to D) at 2-3MPH.. Also concidered a noraml function....
