Default 2001 Expedition w/Battery light on

2 days ago the battery light came on in the day time. Did'nt think a lot about it, but made mental note. Last night we drive to the store usinng the headlights. It takes about 6-8 minutes to get to the store. Go inside and get what we need and head home. By the time we are almost home, the battery charge guage is down to nothing, the battery light is on, and all lighting is nearly non existant (headlamps, instrument panel and interior). Get home and put the battery charger on and would'nt you know the charger seems like it is broken. Now I am stuck wondering where doI start? Does this sound like an alternator or a battery or something else? Please help me think this through. BASSHAWK

AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts will test your alternator and battery free.

Can Autozone test these items while they are still on the vehicle, or do I have to take them out to get them tested? BASSHAWK

They can test both in the vehicle.

Went to Autozone and had both tested. They recommended the alternator. I replaced the alternator and it seems to have resolved the problem. Thanks for the help. BASSHAWK
